The Way Outback Brewery
From humble beginnings in a shed way outback the bottom of the garden, our brewery has come a long way indeed. After a brief upgrade with temporary residence in the taproom, IT now resides in an old automotive garage across the street next to the Barrel Room on Hosker Road.
In terms of beer production, Rich and Niki’s part-time brewing efforts in the original Shed brewery produced just enough beer to supply bottles, kegs and casks to some local bars and vendors around Dorset from the start of 2017. The dream of course was to sell The Way Outback Beer from a building slightly more permanent than a shed and ideally with the name on the front door.
The Shop that the Tap Room is now in became available that November, So Rich and Niki moved the brewery in, and After a few months of renovating, the Tap Room proudly opened on 19 February 2018.
They brewed beer in the morning with a brewhouse and two tanks, and then opened the tap room from midday to 11pM. Initially The Way outback beers shared the taps with some other local guest beers as production was limited by the size, but at least it meant their own beers were on tap in their own tap room.
As luck would have it, the garage across the road became available about six months later, so the tiny brew kit moved over with room to expand. the size of the brew kit has slowly grown to what it is today by gradually buying and selling bits and pieces, and we are proud to produce all our own craft beer with enough to have 13 on tap at any one time, plus a delightful cider from across the water in Purbeck.
We have many more recipes for beer, but we think 13 is plenty of choice so we rotate through our favourites depending on the season, what ingredients are available, And when we can’t stand you lot complaining about why your favourite isn’t on tap :)
